Ok let me 1st start off by saying.

A. I am not done with the game I have only just started and plan to add to this review in the future.
B. I am pretty much a JRPG fanboy so I will probably rate this higher then say someone who does not like them.

White Knight Chronicles is the 1st PS3 release from Level 5 the famed creators of the Dark Cloud series and with that being said WKC seems to have a few bits and pieces taken from the Dark Cloud franchise. Georama sound familiar? It should.

Now then lets start this review.

Gameplay: 7.5/10
It play a lot like a MMO would play you have different actions that you can assign to your command bar and then there is a timer that cools down until you can use the next command. I will be the first to admit that in the start of the game the combat is lame very slow and boring. However once you pick up AC and use combos combat picks up a lot. AC is the things you have to spend to use like special abilities and chain attacks together in a combo. You are awarded AC from fighting taking/giving dmg, killing enemies and such. This is also the stuff that lets you turn into the giant white knight and pummel your enemies. There are lots of Big Boy monsters as I call them and they can be killed either as a knight or as your general party. Very rarely does it force you to become the knight. I have killed every large monster in the game so far with just the party as a sort of personal challange hehe.

Environments: 10/10
Probably one of my favorite parts about this game is its scale. The areas are huge and very fun to explore the world is well thought up and I like the locales. The city of Greede is a huge city built on top of a giant monster that walks around its pretty impressive. You can hear the creature take giant footsteps as you walk around the town. I would have liked to see maybe the city react to its movements like have things sway and such but its still neat. There are lots and lots of NPCs to talk to and many will give you items and quests. You can talk to almost everybody in the city and you can even recruit some to your town to make it better.
Environments add
Well I cannot really give it any more of a perfect score on this then what it already has but I am in a really cool environment now on the back of another huge beast that is hauling ass and the whole screen moves and stuff its pretty cool. The landscape is whizzing by also.

Characters: 9/10
Honestly the characters are your normal JRPG lot with a ruff and tumble boy who wants to save a princess. A mysterious elder figure that sort of takes you under his wing. The bouncy best friend of the boy who decides to come along. The sexy lady that wear little armor. I have also encountered other characters that are not part of the party but still stand out. Like the silly drunken rabbit man. Or maybe the queens English speaking frogs. My favorite party about the characters though and the reason it got an 9 as opposed to a lower score. The character you create is yours. You have lots of ways to make him/her exactly how you want them. Wear armor that you think would look cool or fits your personality. Use whatever weapon or use skills you want to you. My char is like a WKC version of myself hes got red hair a smart ass attitude and a great facial expression. I love when I can feel like I can really make the game mine.

Difficulty: 3/10 added 6/10
This is generally not something I would rate in a game but its easy very easy at least the main story is. I take online quests that are very hard but the main game is kinda to easy. That has not really kept me from enjoying it though its just a lil bit of a downer. I will not really take this into account of ths score just thought I would point it out.
Difficulty: added
So I got a lil further into the game and it got hard real fast I dunno it was weird. I lost to this boss battle like 4 times finally beat it with 14hp left whew. I will pop it up to 5/10 now. Since that difficult battle the dungeons and monsters have all got a lil beefier and it is more on like a normal difficulty then the novice difficulty it was before. Gonne bump it up a point.

Story: 7.5/10 after add 8/10
Like I said a general run of the mil story for a JRPG not really much to be amazed at. There are a few neat twist and turns that I really enjoy that kept the score from being less then a 7 but I think 7 would be average and thats about what the story is. The addition of the giant Knight armors that take part in the story they are new and fresh to me anyways and I would not mind having an Incorruptus of my own. So I bumped it up .5 for that.
Story added:
So I have gotten a lil further in this as well and the story has been getting better also. There was also a very odd cut scene that has not been answered yet but I think its going to push the story in a new direction. I have not really been impressed yet to change the score but will keep updating. Ok the story did get a lot better recently I don't want to spoil anything but I like what it is doing now. Gonna add .5

Online: 10/10
Not really something of a norm for JRPGs I hope it becomes norm because I love this its a blast. It compares a lot to Phantasy Star and if you have ever played those online and liked it I would highly suggest you play this game. It adds lots of hours onto the game and makes the 60 dollar purchase not such a bad thing. Level 5 put a lot of work into the online structure to being able to build your own towns to their friends list system and jumping into others quests. The lobby is essentially the hub of all the online stuff. You can go to others cities to buy stuff or just bs, you can team up with friends or just write something on the message board for others to read. When you go to a camp which can support 12 players you can start going on each others quests. The search feature is not very advanced but it works well for what you need it for. To search for same lvl and same guild rank (which is the rank of the missions you have at your disposal). This is my favorite part about the game and I hope to be able to play with you guys and gals online. Feel free to use my city to buy materials and such that you need for crafting thats what I currently have it specializing in.

Well there you have it the 1st part of my WKC review sorry if its not very good not really a experienced review writer if you have any questions feel free to ask or add them in comment. If you like JRPGs this is a treat to play and I am sure you will enjoy it. If your more into WRPGs or FPS and such I would steer clear.

Total Score Average: 8.8/10 Pretty Darn Good

I'm not a fan of RPG's so I probably wouldn't like the game. Awesome review though
